The Best Fabric
Our boxers are crafted from premium two-ply cotton shirting fabric — the same high-quality material traditionally used in fine shirts, reimagined for everyday comfort.
We use a 100/2 x 100/2 two-ply cotton poplin weave, where each thread is made by twisting two fine yarns together before weaving. This creates a denser, stronger and smoother fabric compared to standard single-twist cotton.
This results in a fabric that is lightweight yet durable, breathable and soft against the skin, and one that actually gets better with wear and washes – gradually polishing itself to a silkier feel over time.
More about the fabric
A two-ply cotton thread consists of two particularly tightly twisted cotton fibers. These high-quality threads are woven into the weft and warp (one vertical and one horizontal thread). The length of the threads makes it lighter and more silky, while the high twist and double twist of the yarns ensure additional stability. Our fabric has the quality label 100/2 x 100/2, which means a 100-count thread is sewn twice in the weft and warp. Unlike regular 115g-130g/m² varieties, our fabric is lighter at just 105g-110g/m².
Yarns are available in thicknesses from 40/2 x 40/2 to 180/2 x 180/2. We deliberately chose the 100/2 x 100/2 quality because it best meets our boxer requirements. Therefore, we also avoid half-twisted yarns, where only one weft or warp thread is twisted, and single-twisted 100% cotton fabrics.

Health
Unlike tight underwear that can restrict blood flow, cause friction, and trap heat, Son of John boxers give your body the space it needs to breathe. Research suggests that men who wear looser-fitting underwear, such as wide boxers, may have better fertility markers compared to those who wear tight styles. The relaxed fit supports natural movement, helps regulate temperature, and reduces unnecessary pressure - prioritising both comfort and well-being.
Research
Research suggests that wearing looser-fitting underwear may be beneficial for male reproductive health. A widely cited 2018 study from the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health found that men who reported regularly wearing boxers had 25% higher sperm concentrations and 17% higher total sperm counts compared to men who wore tighter underwear.
Reason
Temperature regulation. An earlier study published in the British Journal of Urology found that wearing boxers can lower deep scrotal temperature by up to 0.5°C compared to tighter styles. Because elevated temperatures are known to affect sperm production, even small differences in temperature may matter.
